Existing Problems
Children facing medical illnesses, conditions, and challenging life circumstances often encounter misunderstanding, mistreatment, and discrimination due to emotional disturbances, mental disabilities, and physical limitations. They constantly fear criticism, backlash, bullying, and even physical assault.
The exposure or introduction of children to illnesses, conditions, and circumstances affecting either themselves or others can leave a lasting, insecure impact. Whether it's conditions like alopecia or cancer, experiences related to death, divorce, poverty, or even suicide, children often lack a comfortable and safe space to express their inner feelings openly. Consequently, they learn to suppress their emotions, leading to anxiety, stressful, and potentially hazardous environments for themselves and those around them.
Impact of Unresolved Behaviors
Children may exhibit poor behavior or make inappropriate decisions as a result of the various life challenges they face. These challenges could include being in denial about personal or family issues, coping with an undiagnosed learning difficulty, experiencing parental imprisonment, or facing bullying situations in their school or afterschool programs.
Schools often become the initial environment where these inappropriate behaviors manifest. If left unresolved, these behaviors can extend beyond the school setting and impact their homes and communities. Neglecting to address and resolve such behaviors can potentially escalate the situation, leading children to run away from home. When on their own, they become vulnerable to various dangers, including alcohol and substance abuse, risky sexual behavior, human trafficking, and potential loss of life.
